Lot 3663 VERY LARGE GROUPING OF GIBBS 461 NO.1 EMPTY PRIMED

BRASS. The brass cases, approximately 2 5/16" long, are mostly Boxer primed and headstamped "NO.1 / GIBBS / TRADEMARK" and have the "G 2" in shield, indicating a Gibbs' designed cartridge. Gibbs produced little if any ammunition, but contracted with firms such as KYNOCH or Eley as manufacturers. Broadly comparable to the 45-70 govt. and used by hunters like Selous, the 461 cartridge was used primarily in the Gibbs-Farquharson falling-block rifles. Group contains in-excess of 1,400 rounds of empty primed brass. The brass cases are packaged, wrapped in paper, including news-print. Many wrappings were opened to obtain sample cases. CONDITION: cases appear to be generally clean with the beginnings of patina with small spots of oxidation. PROVENANCE: from the renowned collection of quality sporting arms from Lewis Drake together with inventory of Lewis Drake Associates. (02-25923-3/RW). NON-GUN. $800-1,100.
